Creativity & The Arts

By David Ruis

"For by Him, all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whetherthrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him." (Col. 1:16).

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Gen. 1:26-27).

Where Passion & Music Meet

Article from Inside Worship Magazine (Vineyard Music)

IW: Sometimes in the worship community, there can be a strong focus on musical excellence. Would you give us your perspec- tive on the union of technical proficiency and artistic passion?

David: There must be a pairing between technical excellence and passion that happens in music. You can’t, for the sake of passion, blow off technical excellence. But when technical excellence lacks passion, something doesn’t resonate well.

A Fresh Fragrance

I want to encourage leaders to find a new expression and a new fragrance and a new passion from the realization of the brokenness around us. It will unlock a depth of intercession and heart cry that I believe is integral to the expression of worship, and God ends up looking awesome. Pursue that aspect of worship and have passion and integrity in your songwriting.

Simple Devotion To Christ

As soon as any organization gets larger than the life of the organism that sustains it, it can begin to crush that organism, and the organism begins to die. Many of us have lived through that kind of experience at some point in our journey.
